History
We are a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation that serves the public by demonstrating various methods of casting metals. We engage the public in workshops: processing raw materials, making molds, explaining furnace design and operation, history, and demonstration of pouring iron.
The company was co-founded, in Birmingham, AL, 1998, by Rick Batten and Johnny P. Williams, specializing in mobile demonstrations of pouring cast iron art objects. We developed a program at Tannehill Ironworks Historical State Park in McCalla, AL, and at Red Top Mountain State Park in Acworth, GA.
We have collaborated with Charles Hooks at Florida State University, Tallahassee, FL, Skip Van Houten at the University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg, MS, David Lobdell at Highland University, New Mexico, and other schools and universities
Alabama Art Casting has participated in the National Conference on Contemporary Cast Iron Art and Practices (NCCCIAP) since 1999, and the International Conference on Contemporary Cast Iron Art (ICCCIA) since 2000. We have worked with a multitude of artists in coordinated projects on the local, regional, national and international level.
We are working on the development of facilities in Eutaw, AL with our Director, Johnny P. Williams.
